PESHAWAR — The Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO) has warned that the continued refusal of domestic consumers in the tribal districts to install electricity meters and pay bills is putting severe stress on the regional power system, causing repeated feeder trips and prolonged supply disruptions.

The company said that unchecked use of electric heaters, geysers and other high-load appliances during winter has pushed household feeders beyond capacity, triggering frequent overloads. TESCO noted that grid stations and feeder protection relay systems are being affected, and protective relays automatically trip to prevent faults, resulting in recurring outages.

TESCO has urged consumers to reduce heavy appliance usage to avoid unnecessary strain on the network. CEO Syed Tahir Jamal said the only sustainable solution is mandatory installation of household meters and regular bill payments, adding that a stable distribution system cannot be achieved until consumers enter the metering system.
