Quetta, December 5, 2025: Acting on directives from Provincial Minister for Forests and Wildlife Sardar Masood Khan Luni and Secretary Abdul Fattah Bhanger, the Forests and Wildlife Department successfully contained a fire in the Chilghoza (pine nut) forests of Sherani District, averting major damage.

Reports of the blaze on December 4 prompted immediate high-alert status and deployment of field teams. Under the supervision of Chief Conservator Forests North, Syed Ali Imran, and Conservator Zhob Division, Syed Sharaf Agha, officials and staff conducted continuous operations in the hilly terrain.

On December 5, DFO Sherani Zubair Khan led 50 forest personnel, 10 PDMA staff, 20 police officers, and local volunteers in joint efforts to halt the fire’s spread. While most teams returned late night, Sherani forest staff and volunteers remained on-site for 2–3 days to monitor the situation.

A spokesperson urged herders and the public to avoid lighting fires, stressing that forest and wildlife protection is a shared responsibility. Legal action will be taken against those causing damage.
