ISLAMABAD — As the world marks 10 December as Human Rights Day, the ongoing crisis in Indian-administered Kashmir exposes a stark contradiction. Despite being a UN member and signatory to international treaties, India continues systematic violations of human rights in the region. Decades of state-imposed repression have led to thousands of deaths, mass detentions, and widespread instances of enforced disappearances, leaving families in agonizing uncertainty.
Women, often referred to as “Half-Widows,” remain trapped in prolonged trauma, unable to grieve or rebuild their lives. Reports also indicate targeted efforts to alter Kashmir’s demographic balance, destroy cultural institutions, and restrict religious freedoms, raising serious concerns under international law.
Mushtaq Ahmed Butt calls on the UN, EU, OIC, and global powers to demand accountability, ensure impartial investigations, and uphold Kashmiris’ internationally recognized right to self-determination.
