Quetta, 23 December 2025: A Provincial Parliamentarians Forum on population management was organized in Quetta by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with the Netherlands government. The forum, held at Serena Hotel, brought together members of the Balochistan Assembly to discuss strategies for controlling rapid population growth and promoting family planning initiatives.
The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by welcoming remarks from UNFPA Coordinator Saadia Atta. Dr. Muhammad Nawaz, Chairman of the Population and Health Committee of the Balochistan Assembly, highlighted the challenges posed by the increasing population and emphasized the significance of family planning for sustainable development.
UNFPA Technical Specialist Dr. Jameel Ahmed provided a detailed briefing on the key provisions of the Reproductive Health Bill and its relevance to improving maternal and child health outcomes. Participants engaged in a lively question-and-answer session, sharing ideas and recommendations for enhancing reproductive health services in the province.
Provincial Education Minister Raheela Hamid Khan Drani outlined the government’s future roadmap and reaffirmed its commitment to population management. The Secretary of the Population Welfare Department stressed the importance of awareness on reproductive health and effective family planning.
The forum concluded with a call for collaborative efforts between legislators, government departments, and development partners to ensure population control, maternal health, and sustainable socio-economic growth in Balochistan.
