High-Level visit conducted to review progress of Sukkur Barrage rehabilitation project
Rehabilitation to boost lifespan and reduce water shortages: says Sindh Minister irrigation Jam Khan Shoro.

SUKKUR: Minister Irrigation department Sindh, Secretary Irrigation Sindh Mr Zarif Iqbal Khero, PD PMO SBIP Mr Pritam Das and others Chief Engineers of Irrigation Department visited Sukkur Barrage SBIP- S1 Project Rehabilitation and upgradation of Sukkur Barrage on 28/12/2025 Sunday.
The visit was carried out the exposed structure of Sukkur Barrage by Chinese Contractor CRBCHBSZ through Coffer Dam in tail channel of 8 gates from bay no 15 to bay no 22. The secretary Irrigation Sindh briefed to the minister irrigation that the floor of Barrage has been exposed after 100 years of construction of the Barrage. Minister Irrigation Sindh was also briefed that in last season in Phase1 there were 16 gates including trail run gate A total 17 gates has been replaced. He further briefed that in this season Phase-2, the 27 gates will be replaced ۔ All the civil works are being carried out including recoupment of stone apron , strengthening of pavement , grouting of peers and repointing , replacement of settling blocks. In mechanical works total 56 operational gates will be replaced up to June 2027 including replacement of embedded parts and installation of the new latest hoisting system.
The contract work is on fast track and inshallah will be completed as per scheduled program..
After the visit of site minister irrigation Mr Jam Khan Shoro , Secretary Irrigation Mr Zarif Iqbal Khero held a press conference and briefed about benefits of the project.
Minister Irrigation Sindh said that after successful Completion of the mega project of Sukkur Barrage , the life line of the Barrage will be increased and the command area of the barrage will get benefits and shortage of water will decrease.
After the briefing to the media the minister and secretary irrigation Sindh held a meeting with Chinse contractor in the presence of PMO SBIP, PIC and Sukkur Barrage authority.
The chief engineers and others of Irrigation department were participated during the visit programs Mr Mansoor Memon Chief Engineer Development region 1, Mr Ikram ullah Qureshi Chief Engineer Sukkur Barrage left Bank, Mr Mukhtiar Abro Chief Engineer Right Bank Sukkur Barrage , Mr Khakid Jan Baloch SE KIC, Mr Noor ul Arfeen Baloch DPD PMO SBIP, Mr Abdul Fatah Memon DPD Technical PMO SBIP.
