A Remarkable Achievement of Punjab Safe Cities Authority: Virtual Center for Child Safety Reunites Shagufta with Parents After 22 Years
Lahore, December 26, 2025: According to the Safe City spokesperson, Shagufta Bibi, who went missing from Fateh Garh, Lahore in 2004 at the age of 12, has been reunited with her parents after 22 years. At the time of her disappearance, Shagufta left home to fetch food but never returned. Her mother revealed that Shagufta was mentally challenged, making her disappearance an unending source of agony and pain for her family. The spokesperson further added that after going missing, Shagufta was placed in Edhi Home Lahore and later transferred to Edhi Center in Karachi for medical care. For years, her family had no information about her whereabouts, leaving a mother in prolonged anxiety and sorrow.
The spokesperson further stated that under “Mera Pyara” campaign, conducted by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s Virtual Center for Child Safety, interviews of abandoned and unclaimed individuals residing in welfare institutions in Karachi were carried out and shared on the campaign’s official social media platforms. Among these videos was Shagufta’s video. Shagufta’s sister saw the video on the official “Mera Pyara” Facebook page and immediately contacted the team. After completing all verification processes, the 22-year-long separation ended and Shagufta was handed over to her mother from Edhi Home in Karachi.
According to the Safe City spokesperson, this remarkable achievement is the result of collaboration between the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s Virtual Center for Child Safety, “Mera Pyara” team and the Edhi Foundation by utilizing modern technology to reunite missing individuals with their loved ones. Under “Mera Pyara” campaign, 1930 missing children and individuals are still awaiting reunion with their families. The spokesperson urged citizens to actively participate in this noble cause. If anyone recognizes a missing person, they should immediately call 15 and press 3 to immediately notify PSCA’s Virtual Center for Child Safety.
