OkThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) carried out province-wide enforcement operations, seizing unwholesome meat and expired beverages in Mardan, Lower Dir and Dera Ismail Khan.
According to a spokesperson, food safety teams recovered 300 kilograms of unwholesome meat from a vehicle during a checkpoint on Nowshera Road, Mardan, which was destroyed on the spot and fines were imposed. In Lower Dir, a joint raid at Timergara Bazaar recovered over 300 kilograms of unhygienic meat from a butcher shop, which was sealed, while an FIR was registered and the butcher arrested. In Dera Ismail Khan, 1,100 litres of expired beverages were seized from a warehouse in Paroa Bazaar.
Meanwhile, sources say challenges such as staff shortages and gaps in routine monitoring continue to affect enforcement across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, allowing mislabelled products, substandard meat, unhygienic nan shops, adulterated ghee, poorly prepared fried items and misbranded drinking water to surface in markets. Officials maintain that enhanced manpower and sustained inspections are required to improve oversight and ensure food safety across the province.
