Karachi: Provincial leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh for Minority Affairs, Dr. Sham Sunder K. Advani, has termed the martyrdom of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27 as one of the gravest tragedies in Pakistan’s national history.
Talking to the media before departing for Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to attend the death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Dr. Advani said that December 27 symbolizes a severe blow to democracy, the Constitution, and the sovereignty of the people. He stated that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was not merely a political leader but the voice of democracy, the Constitution, and the masses.
Dr. Sham Sunder K. Advani said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was a beacon of hope for the oppressed segments of society, especially women and minorities. Her martyrdom deprived Pakistan of a wise, courageous, and staunchly democratic leader. He added that she struggled relentlessly against extremism, dictatorship, and intolerance, and by sacrificing her life, she ensured the continuity of the democratic process in the country.
He further said that the Pakistan Peoples Party remains the true custodian of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s political philosophy and continues to take practical steps for the protection of minority rights, promotion of interfaith harmony, and establishment of social justice.
Dr. Advani emphasized that December 27 reminds the nation of its collective responsibility to strengthen democracy and defeat the forces of hatred and intolerance. He reiterated that the Sindh government is fully committed to safeguarding the rights and development of all citizens, particularly minorities, in line with the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and will continue to carry forward her mission under all circumstances.
