Balochistan CM Urges International Community to Enforce UN-Backed Right to Self-Determination for Kashmir
Independent Report
Quetta: Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing their internationally recognized right to self-determination. Speaking on the occasion of Youm-e-Haq-e-Khud-Iradiyat (Day of Right to Self-Determination) on January 4, he called on the global community to honor United Nations Security Council resolutions and put an end to ongoing human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Recalling the UN Commission’s historic decision of January 5, 1949, Mir Bugti underlined that the future of the Kashmiri people was to be determined through a free, fair, and impartial referendum. He lamented that India’s continued illegal occupation and defiance have obstructed this international commitment, leaving the aspirations of the Kashmiri people unfulfilled.
The Chief Minister highlighted the intensified hardships faced by residents of Indian-held Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when New Delhi implemented unilateral measures that undermined the region’s constitutional, social, and demographic framework. He condemned systematic suppression of political expression, arbitrary detentions, imprisonment of leaders, home raids, restrictions on media freedom, bans on political parties, and routine so-called search operations—practices he described as blatant violations of human rights and dignity.
Despite these challenges, Mir Bugti stressed that the determination of the Kashmiri people remains resolute. He praised their unwavering commitment to self-determination and affirmed that the sacrifices of Kashmiri brothers and sisters are deeply respected by the people of Pakistan, including those in Balochistan.
The Chief Minister further noted that achieving a just and sustainable resolution to the Kashmir dispute is critical for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in South Asia. He urged the international community to press India to immediately end human rights abuses, reverse the unconstitutional measures of August 2019, repeal oppressive laws, and fully restore the Kashmiri people’s right to determine their own future, in accordance with UN resolutions.
Mir Bugti reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for Kashmiris and pledged that Balochistan, alongside the federal government, will continue to advocate for their cause on every international platform.
