Lahore, January 6 – The Punjab Emergency Services Department (ESD) reported 1,081 road traffic crashes across all 37 districts of the province over the past 24 hours, resulting in 24 fatalities and 1,251 injuries. Of the injured, 521 sustained serious injuries and were transferred to hospitals, while 730 with minor injuries received on-site treatment by Rescue Medical Teams, reducing hospital congestion.
Analysis shows motorbikes were involved in 70% of incidents, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline. Victims included 741 drivers, 34 underage drivers, 420 passengers, and 114 pedestrians. Lahore recorded the highest number of crashes (184) affecting 216 people, followed by Multan (71 crashes, 78 victims) and Faisalabad (59 crashes, 61 victims).
Overall, 1,275 victims were reported, including 1,056 males and 219 females. Age-wise, 197 were under 18, 734 were between 18 and 40, and 344 were above 40. Vehicles involved included 1,082 motorbikes, 88 auto-rickshaws, 159 cars, 30 vans, 21 passenger buses, 49 trucks, and 125 other vehicles.
ESD spokesperson Farooq Ahmad emphasized that immediate and consistent traffic law enforcement, driver awareness, and adherence to lane discipline are critical to reducing road traffic incidents and saving lives in Punjab.
