Peshawar, January 6 – Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has instructed authorities to complete all preparatory work promptly for extending the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to Tehsil Jamrud and Tehsil Bara in District Khyber. The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, where officials discussed infrastructure, fleet expansion, and operational arrangements for the new routes.
The CM emphasized that the extension would ease commuting between Peshawar and Khyber District, provide safe, reliable, and affordable public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and mitigate environmental pollution. A dedicated ramp will be constructed at Karhano Station for the BRT service at an estimated cost of Rs 500 million.
Officials informed the meeting that 12 new 12-meter buses will be procured to commence operations for Jamrud and Bara bazaars. Eight bus stops will be established along a five-kilometer stretch from Karhano Market to Jamrud Bazaar, while ten bus stops will cover a seven-kilometer stretch from Pishtakhara to Bara Bazaar. Currently, the BRT system operates 18 routes covering 132 kilometers. By June 2026, an additional 52 diesel hybrid buses will join the fleet at a cost of Rs 3.2 billi
