The US State Department has announced the suspension of immigrant visa services for applicants from Pakistan and several other countries starting January 21. According to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Pakistan, the move reflects the Trump administration’s focus on strengthening vetting procedures and ensuring national security.
The embassy stated that the suspension will remain in place while authorities conduct comprehensive screening of new immigrant visa applicants. Officials emphasized that applicants must demonstrate full eligibility and provide assurances that they will not rely on government assistance once in the United States.
The US government clarified that the decision applies only to immigrant visas. Non-immigrant visa categories—including tourist, student, athlete, skilled worker visas, and those for immediate family members—will continue to be processed without interruption.
The announcement has raised concerns among prospective immigrants, particularly families awaiting reunification. However, US officials maintain that the measure is temporary and aimed at improving immigration standards while safeguarding public interests.
