Larkana Traffic Chaos Exposes Governance Failures
Residents report daily congestion caused by illegal encroachments, unregulated parking, and ineffective traffic control

LARKANA: Larkana, once known as a major political center, is facing worsening traffic disorder due to weak administration, poor enforcement, and lack of coordination among civic institutions.
Residents report daily congestion caused by illegal encroachments, unregulated parking, and ineffective traffic control. Although the city is divided into three traffic zones, officials admit the move has brought little improvement. Questions also remain over the authority and deployment of traffic personnel.
Legal provisions exist to act against road obstructions, but citizens allege selective enforcement. Illegal parking stands and encroachments continue to operate, while accountability remains unclear.
Non-functional traffic signals have become a key symbol of mismanagement. Signals installed in the 1990s failed within months, and newer systems set up at six major intersections at a cost of millions reportedly never worked despite the project being declared complete.
Municipal and local government departments have blamed one another, but no public explanation has been given regarding spending or failure. Civic activists warn that such projects existing only on paper reflect a deeper crisis of accountability.
Elected representatives have largely remained silent, drawing criticism from residents. Citizens say that without transparency, coordination, and consistent enforcement, Larkana’s traffic problems will continue unchecked.
