Quetta: Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced that the provincial government has adopted a humane, scientific and sustainable policy for the protection and welfare of stray animals, strictly prohibiting the killing of dogs and cats across the province.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the chief minister said clear instructions had been issued to the Quetta municipal administration to immediately stop the killing of stray animals and to ensure that no fake or substandard vaccines were used during vaccination drives.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti stated that with the cooperation of Panah Quetta, a modern and internationally recognized TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release) system was being implemented in Quetta to manage the population of stray dogs and cats. He said the initiative aimed to create a balance between animal welfare and public safety by adopting globally accepted humane practices.
The chief minister emphasized that violence and killing were not solutions to the stray animal issue. “Civilized societies resolve such challenges through scientific and compassionate methods,” he said, adding that cruelty or inhumane treatment of animals would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He further said that the provincial government was committed to making this policy effective and sustainable, ensuring long-term benefits for both citizens and animals. Appealing to the public, Mir Sarfraz Bugti urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and play a responsible role in promoting animal welfare.
The chief minister noted that Balochistan was steadily moving toward becoming a safer and more compassionate province, not only for its people but also for animals, where welfare, humanity and the rule of law were being upheld.
