Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmed Shah said the government is implementing historic reforms in the healthcare sector to serve suffering humanity, in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Allied Hospital-I Faisalabad, the minister said the hospital is Punjab’s third-largest healthcare facility, treating thousands of patients daily from Faisalabad and surrounding districts. He noted that 45 fully operational theatres demonstrate the hospital’s advanced capacity for major surgeries and modern medical care.
The minister stated that over Rs 100 million in grants were provided to Allied Hospital during the past three years, enabling treatment for 482 deserving patients. Assistance through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal rose from 131 patients in FY 2023–24 to nearly 200, while 228 patients received treatment in 2025–26 at a cost of Rs 45 million.
He added that from 2008 to 2025, more than 5,000 patients suffering from cancer, cardiac diseases, major surgeries, and other complex illnesses were treated through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.
Highlighting reforms, the minister said the PBM medical budget was increased from Rs 2.25 billion to Rs 3 billion, while financial assistance for heart surgeries and transplants was enhanced from Rs 1 million to Rs 1.5 million. He emphasized transparency and merit, announced the lifting of the ban on new gas connections, and said steps are underway to reduce gas and electricity load-shedding nationwide.
