WASHINGTON: An aircraft carrying US President Donald Trump was forced to return to Washington shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue, the White House said.
Officials confirmed that Air Force One was heading toward Switzerland when a minor electrical problem was detected soon after departure. As a precaution, the crew decided to turn back. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the issue posed no threat and that the president continued his travel on another aircraft.
US media reported that the lights in the press cabin briefly went out shortly after takeoff before the plane returned. The incident has again drawn attention to the ageing Air Force One fleet, which has been in service for nearly four decades.
