Islamabad, February 4, 2026:
The Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has completed the provision of modern exhibition and conservation equipment to the Taxila Museum under a grant assistance project worth 48.8 million Japanese Yen.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi highlighted Taxila’s historic role as a centre of Gandhara civilization and its deep cultural links with Japan. He expressed hope for expanded cooperation, including renewed archaeological missions in Pakistan to preserve and promote Gandhara heritage.
Representing the Punjab Archaeology Department, Chief Conservationist Maqsood Ahmed Malik thanked Japan and JICA, noting that the new equipment will strengthen scientific conservation, modern exhibition practices, and long-term preservation of artefacts.
JICA Pakistan Chief Miyata said the project would improve conservation standards, cultural tourism, and sustainable heritage management, reaffirming strong Japan-Pakistan cultural cooperation.
