Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Abdul Karim has ordered strict enforcement of the government-approved code of conduct to ensure the safe and peaceful celebration of the three-day Basant Festival in Lahore. He stated that only registered kite sellers will be allowed to sell approved kites and strings, warning that violations will be met with strict legal action without discrimination.
The IGP directed law enforcement officials to intensify monitoring of kite and string sales across the province. He emphasized zero tolerance for aerial firing, display of weapons, obscenity, and immoral activities during the festival. Rao Abdul Karim reiterated that the Anti-Kite Flying Act would be enforced rigorously throughout Punjab.
According to a police spokesperson, 150 cases have been registered province-wide for violations of kite-flying laws, resulting in the arrest of 157 suspects. Authorities recovered 39,667 illegal kites and 248 spools of prohibited string. In Lahore alone, 67 suspects were arrested, with more than 7,000 kites and 41 string spools seized during targeted operations.
