Lahore, February 13: Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced sweeping governance and accountability reforms in Punjab’s public hospitals while addressing a conference of CEOs and Medical Superintendents.
She administered a pledge of zero corruption and approved the appointment of Monitoring and Evaluation Assistants, digitalization of health facilitation systems, and introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). A new Performance Evaluation Report system for doctors has also been launched, while district and tehsil hospitals have shifted to paperless operations.
Emergency wards have been linked with Safe City cameras, and on-call doctors have been directed to reach hospitals within 20 minutes. Strict restrictions on mobile phone use during duty hours have also been imposed.
The Chief Minister said Punjab’s health budget has increased from Rs399 billion to Rs630 billion, with over 1,500 doctors recruited and Rs22 billion in pending dues cleared to ensure uninterrupted medicine supply. She emphasized that hospital leadership is a public trust and must translate resources into visible patient relief.
