Karachi, February 16 — Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon called for legislative action against fake news, proposing a parliamentary committee in the Sindh Assembly to draft recommendations and strengthen enforcement mechanisms.
Speaking in the Assembly, he said complaints can be filed with the FIA Cyber Crime Wing under existing federal laws, including PECA. He stressed that the government supports freedom of expression but opposes misinformation harming individuals and families.
Memon suggested forming a provincial authority to act against false reporting and urged independent decisions on government advertisements through APNS. He criticized road blockades during protests, questioning attempts to enter restricted zones and alleged stone-pelting incidents. He also apologized for police violence against PTI workers, calling any unlawful action condemnable.
