Quetta: The Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) has expressed serious concern over the registration of an FIR against Agha Obaid, Chief Editor of local newspaper “Ulas News” and a YouTuber, following a video related to the Excise Department.
In a joint statement, BUJ President Manzoor Ahmed Rind, General Secretary Shah Hussain Tareen, and cabinet members said the case, reportedly filed under charges including interference in official matters, appears to create pressure on the journalist. The union emphasized the need for transparent and impartial investigation.
BUJ leadership urged the Provincial Minister for Excise and senior officials of the Home and Excise & Taxation Departments to take notice of the matter. They stressed that Agha Obaid must be granted full legal rights to defend himself and that any evidence against him should be presented openly.
The union warned against discriminatory or retaliatory actions and called for justice in accordance with legal standards.
