QUETTA, Feb 20: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti met Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam to discuss climate challenges, environmental risks, and a coordinated response strategy for the province.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to enhance federal-provincial cooperation, improve resource allocation, and expand technical assistance to address the growing impacts of climate change. The chief minister emphasized that climate change is a serious global challenge, with Balochistan facing disproportionate consequences despite contributing minimally to greenhouse gas emissions.
He announced that Balochistan has established its first Climate Fund to ensure timely completion of environmental projects and targeted action in vulnerable areas. Floods, droughts, and other climate-related disasters require comprehensive policy planning and coordinated efforts, he said.
Romina Khurshid Alam assured full federal support, praising the provincial government’s inclusive climate policy, particularly the integration of women and marginalized communities. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building an environmentally sustainable and resilient Balochistan.
