Independent Report
Karachi, February 21, 2026: Sindh has completed its first real-time digital birth registrations at public teaching hospitals, marking a historic step in digital governance. Four newborns were registered immediately after birth at Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro/Hyderabad, and Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College Hospital, Sukkur.
The initiative, part of the CRVS Pilot Project launched in July 2025 with UNFPA support, integrates civil registration with health facilities through NADRA’s Birth Notification Tool (BNT). The system reduces delays, errors, and paper use while ensuring legal identity from birth. The pilot involved 36 public health facilities and will expand to hospitals, rural health centres, and maternal care units across Sindh, aiming for 95% birth registration coverage by 2028. Dedicated funds have been allocated for system scale-up and sustainability.
