Islamabad, October 17:

In a landmark step toward advancing sustainable mobility, Attock Petroleum Limited (APL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. and its partner AE Power to jointly develop a nationwide Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network across Pakistan.

The signing ceremony, held at Huawei’s Islamabad office, was reported by Gwadar Pro on Friday.

Under the agreement, the three organizations will collaborate to establish state-of-the-art EV charging stations and promote electric mobility across the country. The initiative is aimed at building a clean, energy-efficient transportation ecosystem, reducing Pakistan’s carbon footprint, and supporting the government’s long-term green energy goals.

Pakistan’s EV sector has witnessed growing momentum, with both the public and private sectors showing increasing commitment to sustainable transportation. According to official data, more than 3,800 investors and companies have expressed interest in setting up EV charging stations nationwide, with over 70 operational licenses already granted.

The government’s National Electric Vehicle Policy (2025–2030) sets an ambitious target to install 10,000 EV charging stations by 2030. The policy also offers tariff reductions of up to 44% to attract greater investment in the sector.

Provincial governments are also playing their part: Punjab has announced plans to set up 2,000 charging stations and introduce 600 electric buses, while Sindh aims to install charging stations every 50 kilometers along major highways to facilitate intercity travel.

Recently, Pakistan’s fastest 120 kW EV charging station was inaugurated in Islamabad, capable of fully charging vehicles within an hour — a major step toward enabling faster, more convenient EV adoption.

Public interest in electric vehicles continues to rise, particularly among two- and three-wheeler users such as e-bikes and rickshaws, while adoption among private car owners is gradually gaining pace as the supporting infrastructure expands.

The APL-Huawei-AE Power collaboration marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s transition toward a cleaner, smarter, and more connected energy future, aligning with the nation’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and green development.
