Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Meets German Ambassador; Discusses Bilateral Cooperation, Merged Districts, and Regional Stability
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan, Her Excellency Ina Ruth Luise Lepel, at the Chief Minister’s House, Peshawar, on Friday. The German Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Jan Gerald Krausser, First Secretary at the German Embassy, Islamabad.
The meeting, held as a courtesy call, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, enhancing development initiatives in merged districts, and promoting regional stability.
The German Ambassador congratulated the Chief Minister on assuming office and appreciated the warm hospitality extended by the provincial government. She emphasized the ongoing collaboration between Germany and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in various sectors, particularly education and institutional development.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi thanked Germany for its continued support and noted that his government is pursuing a forward-looking development agenda centered on economic revival, sustainable growth, and institutional reform. He said that despite natural and security challenges, the province has made significant progress through resilience and reform-driven governance.
Speaking about the merged districts, the Chief Minister said that the provincial government is prioritizing education, healthcare, and infrastructure projects to bring the region on par with the rest of the province. He also announced plans to establish a modern university in the merged areas, focused on applied sciences and technical education to create better employment opportunities for the youth.
Ambassador Lepel appreciated the government’s efforts and highlighted that several University of Peshawar faculty members are alumni of German universities, reflecting the strong educational ties between the two nations. “It is encouraging to see Pakistani graduates from German universities contributing to academia and development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” she remarked.
On regional matters, Chief Minister Afridi briefed the Ambassador on the situation along the Pak-Afghan border and emphasized the importance of peace and dialogue for lasting stability. He reaffirmed that the provincial government is committed to humanitarian principles in facilitating the dignified repatriation of Afghan nationals.
Both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation and deepening the long-standing friendship between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Germany.
