ECP set to hold LG’s elections in Quetta in compliance with BHC directives, says PEC

QUETTA: The Provincial Election Commissioner, Ali Asghar Sial has announced that the Election Commission is set to hold local government elections in Quetta in compliance with the Balochistan High Court’s directives.
He stated that the local government’s election schedule would be issued in the first week of November.
He made these remarks during a media briefing at his office on Friday regarding the upcoming local government elections in Quetta.
The Director Administration of the Election Commission, Naeem Ahmed, and other officials were also present on the occasion.
The Provincial Election Commissioner said that voters’ lists for Quetta are currently being prepared. He informed that Quetta comprises 172 union councils with a total of 641 wards.
He added that efforts are underway to ensure the peaceful conduct of the local government elections. Responding to a question, Ali Asghar Sayal said that police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel would be deployed for security during the elections, and if necessary, the Pakistan Army could also be called in.
In response to another question, he mentioned that the provincial assembly election in Kalat has been delayed due to security concerns.
