ECP Confirms Quetta Local Government Elections to Proceed as Scheduled — Rejects Balochistan Govt’s Postponement Request

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reaffirmed its commitment to democratic continuity by rejecting the Balochistan government’s request to delay local government elections in district Quetta, announcing that the polls will proceed strictly as per the official schedule.
In its official statement issued on Monday, the ECP stated that after detailed review and consultation, it has decided to conduct the elections without any change to the timeline.
The Commission further directed the Government of Balochistan to ensure foolproof security measures for the peaceful, transparent, and fair conduct of the local government elections, emphasizing the importance of creating a secure and credible electoral environment for both voters and candidates.
The ECP reiterated that the decision reflects its firm resolve to strengthen grassroots democracy, promote public participation, and ensure timely implementation of the local governance system across the province.
