KARACHI — China has donated 58 solar-powered street lights to Karachi, providing a practical boost to the city’s public safety and urban infrastructure. The handover ceremony took place in Clifton, organised by the Chinese Consulate General, with Consul General Yang Yundong and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab in attendance.

Consul General Yang described the project as a reflection of the “all-weather and ironclad” Pakistan-China partnership and said it forms part of China’s ongoing efforts to support community-level development. He added that China will continue collaborating with Karachi on similar “small yet smart” urban initiatives.

Mayor Wahab noted that the solar lights have already enhanced night-time mobility for residents and underscored the city’s commitment to expanding cooperation with China, including projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

This donation is part of a wider series of targeted development projects by China in Pakistan’s largest city, aimed at improving infrastructure, safety, and quality of life.
