KARACHI: At least 20 injured when security personnel reportedly opened fire during unrest at the United States Consulate General Karachi on Sunday morning.
According to initial reports said 8 killed and injured in security personnel firing inside the US Consulate in Karachi, when protesters gathered outside the consulate and later breached security barriers set on fire, forcing their way into the premises and set on fire. The witnesses claimed gunfire erupted from inside the compound amid escalating tensions, resulting in multiple casualties.
In the ensuing chaos, enraged demonstrators allegedly set parts of the consulate building on fire after crossing security checkpoints. Emergency services shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, while law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement regarding the circumstances of the firing. An investigation is expected as the situation remains tense.
