CM concerned about incessant mishaps in Balochistan’s coalmines; orders arrest of nominated accused in Sinjdi incident

QUETTA: While expressed deep concern over the incessant mishaps occurring in the coalmines in Balochistan, the Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has ordered to arrest immediately the accused nominated in the mishap occurred in Sinjdi coal mine on January 9, 2025.
The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over performance of the inspection teams of the Mines and Minerals Development Department and ordered to transfer the investigations of Sinjdi coal mine mishap to the Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT).
He also ordered to ensure payment of financial assistance to the heirs of those coal mine workers died in the coal mines accidents.
The Chief Minister was chairing the meeting of the Mines and Minerals Development Department and coal mine workers, here on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed the accidents occurred in the coal mines during the mining in Balochistan.
Those who were in attendance in the meeting were included: Provincial Minister Finance, Mines and Minerals Development, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Babar Khan, Special Secretary Mines, Muhammad Farooq, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Jahanzaib Khan and other concerned high ups.
The leader of Opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhaw Assembly, Dr. Ibadullah Khan especially participated in the meeting.
The high ups of Mines and Minerals Development Department briefed the meeting about the mishaps occurred in the coal mines of the province besides other related matters.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister was dismayed over performance of the inspection teams of the department, saying that it is no justification that inspectors can’t visit the mines due to law and order situation.
He asserted that the employees who can’t perform for they have been appointed, should go to their homes after tendering their resignations.
He stressed that those responsible for mishaps in the coalmines would have to be punished after fixing the responsibility of the same.
While particularly referring to the recent incident of coalmine in Sinjdi, the Chief Minister said that the second mishap occurred in the same coal mine company during one year appears to be outcome of irresponsibility, as such, adding he ordered to arrest those nominated in the case.
He also issued directives to the concerned department to adopt safety measures of the modern mining module in the province.
In addition to this, he directed to ensure regular inspection of the coal mines anyway besides equipping the rescue and training wing with the modern technology.
He also asked the department to prepare comprehensive proposal for bringing marked improvement in the mining sector, surely we would provide the desired resources.
While on the other hand, the Chief Minister directed to ensure registration of all coal mine workers in the concerned authority.
