QUETTA: The seven-day anti-polio campaign has been postponed for third time in Balochistan, the sources of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication informed.
According to the revised schedule, the polio immunization campaign is scheduled to begin now in Balochistan from December 30.
The Emergency Operation Center (EOC) sources said that more than 11,000 teams have been formed for immunizing children against the polio virus. The teams would visit each and every house in all districts of the province to vaccinate over 2.66 million children below five years of age during the immunization campaign in province.
All the necessary arrangements have been finalized for the immunization campaign. The EOC Coordinator assured that wholehearted security would be provided to the teams engaged in the campaign.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 26 cases of polio has been reported in the province during current year.
The cases have been reported from Quetta, Chaman, Dera Bugti, Killa Abdullah, Jhal Magsi, Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Noshki, Loralai, Pishin, Kharan, Jaffarabad and Chaghai.
According to EOC Coordinator, Inamul Haq, the polio virus was detected in environmental samples of different areas of the province.
He said that the poliovirus found in the environment poses serious threat to the children. He said that the campaign, last of the year 2024, is being launched because of presence of the poliovirus in the environmental samples and otherwise.
Therefore, the parents have been appealed to ensure vaccination of their children against the crippling disease besides the routine immunization ensuring their wholehearted cooperation with the teams approaching them.
He also said that all available resources are being mobilized to ensure complete eradication of the virus from the province.
