NADRA Hosts Consultative Conference on Upgradation of Biometric & Verification Regime.

Islamabad- National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) hosted a consultative conference at its headquarters in Islamabad, focusing on the upgradation of the biometric and verification regime. The event brought together regulators and key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the challenges being faced in identity verification. Counter-interventions designed by NADRA for ensuring smooth and unhindered service delivery to regulators and citizens were also highlighted.
Chairman NADRA opened the conference with a detailed briefing on sector-specific challenges and the upgradations required within the identity verification regime. A critical discussion centered around the difficulties faced by citizens with diminished fingerprints, particularly elderly pensioners and senior citizens. The announcement of NADRA’s upcoming launch of a facial recognition feature in the Pak ID Mobile App and at Registration Centers nationwide on January 15, 2025, was warmly received. Participants expressed optimism that this innovative solution would enhance accessibility and minimize delays.
Conference also included deliberations on the implementation of IRIS technology, with participants examining its benefits and potential challenges for both end-users and feeder agencies. The delegates were briefed about the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework and the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) which aims to foster the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy. Discussions focused on strengthening coordination between agencies to ensure the successful implementation of new initiatives and interventions.
Representatives from regulators and key stakeholders participated in the workshop, including the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Pakistan Banks’ Association (PBA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (IMPass), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Ministry of Interior (MoI), National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), National Forensic Agency, and the Pakistan Fintech Association.
