Benazir Bhutto’s 17th Death Anniversary: Jamal Khan Jogezai Demands Justice

Quetta. Dec. 31, Today marks the 17th anniversary of the assassination of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Jamal Khan Jogezai, founding leader of the Pakistan People’s Party and former General Secretary of the Balochistan People’s Party, remembered Bhutto as the “Daughter of the East” who continues to cry out for justice from her grave.

Jogezai lamented that despite the passage of 17 years, Bhutto’s killers remain unpunished. He criticized the Balochistan Assembly for not unanimously demanding justice for Bhutto’s murder. Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007, in Rawalpindi, during a campaign rally for the 2008 general elections.¹

Jogezai’s statement highlights the ongoing quest for justice and accountability in Pakistan, particularly in cases of high-profile assassinations and human rights abuses. As the nation remembers Benazir Bhutto, her legacy continues to inspire demands for truth, justice, and democracy.
