Federal Government to Play Role in Promoting Higher Education and Research in Gilgit-Baltistan: Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal.

Islamabad– The federal government will play an active role in promoting higher education and research in Gilgit-Baltistan. This was expressed by the Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, during a meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU), Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah. The meeting was attended by the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Gilgit-Baltistan, Hafeez ur Rehman, and the Director of Planning and Development at KIU, Mir Tazeem Akhtar.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor briefed the Federal Minister about the various initiatives taken by the university in the fields of education, research, and development. He informed that under the leadership and special interest of the Federal Minister, significant developments have taken place at the university, including the establishment of the Engineering and Technology Campus, three sub-campuses, a boys’ hostel, and a sports gymnasium.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted that more than 250 students are currently enrolled in three engineering programs, and 1,500 students are studying across the three sub-campuses. He credited these advancements to the continuous support of the Federal Minister, who has always taken a keen interest in the development of Gilgit-Baltistan, especially in higher education and research.

Moreover, the Vice Chancellor mentioned that the Federal Minister had played a vital role in the revision of the PC-1 for the KIU Engineering and Technology Campus. In his address, the Federal Minister emphasized the strategic importance of Gilgit-Baltistan and assured that the federal government would continue to extend all possible support for the region’s development.
The Vice Chancellor also extended an invitation to the Federal Minister to visit Karakoram International University and host a special seminar on the Prime Minister’s “Uraan Pakistan” program. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Vice Chancellor presented the Federal Minister with a copy of his book on Project Procurement and Contract Management.
