Ipsos Pakistan reports improved consumer confidence but ongoing economic concerns
ISLAMABAD, FEB 28 (ONLINE): Ipsos in Pakistan unveiled its latest Consumer Confidence Index Survey on Friday at a press conference held at Movenpick Hotel, Islamabad. This special edition marks the completion of one year of the current government and presents valuable insights into how Pakistanis perceive the country’s economic direction and their own financial well-was.
Abdul Sattar Babar, CEO and Managing Director of Ipsos in Pakistan, presented the findings to an audience comprising senior journalists, economists, academicians, and representatives from the public & private sector. The data reveals an improvement across all key indicators of consumer confidence — including country direction, economic conditions, household purchasing comfort, and investment confidence — compared to the previous year.
Some indicators even recorded their highest-ever positivity levels since Ipsos started tracking consumer confidence in Pakistan. However, the results also highlight that consumer sentiment remains largely negative, indicating persistent concerns regarding the economy and governance.
Babar emphasized that despite visible improvements, the majority still perceives the economy, job security, and overall country direction as weak. This underscores the need for a wellcoordinated and sustained policy effort to build public confidence. He also compared Pakistan’s performance with similar countries like Türkiye, Brazil, and South Africa, as well as neighbouring countries like India and China, noting that while Pakistan continues to lag significantly behind India and China in consumer confidence levels, it has maintained a position above Türkiye — reflecting the structural economic and governance challenges requiring long-term attention.
The study was conducted independently by Ipsos, without any external partners or sponsors, ensuring complete objectivity and neutrality in its findings, with the intention to share the understanding about the world we live in and how citizens around the globe think & feel about their world.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion and Q&A session, where participants emphasized the importance of creating policy stability, promoting private sector growth, and enhancing economic transparency to further boost consumer confidence in Pakistan.
