Awami Tahreek Pays respects on demise of Dr. Manzoor Ejaz

With heavy hearts, Awami Tahreek bids farewell to Dr. Manzoor Ejaz, a colossal figure in Punjabi literature, a fearless intellectual, and a beacon of progressive thought. A Pakistani-American scholar of unparalleled depth, Dr. Ejaz leaves behind an indelible mark through his mastery of Punjabi classical poetry and his unrelenting dedication to his mother tongue. His groundbreaking five-volume analysis of Heer by Waris Shah and his decades-long stewardship of a Punjabi magazine from Washington stand as testaments to his genius and resolve.
Dr. Ejaz’s brilliance shone brightest in his dialogues with Sindh’s visionary leader, Rasool Bux Palijo, where their exchanges ignited sparks of wisdom and solidarity. A former professor of philosophy and English at Punjab University, he faced persecution under Zia-ul-Haq’s oppressive regime, which ousted him from his post and forced him into exile. Yet, adversity only sharpened his resolve. From abroad, he championed justice, democracy, and the empowerment of the marginalized, proving that tyranny could silence his voice but never his spirit.
Awami Tahreek stands firm in its belief that true intellectuals like Dr. Ejaz transcend borders, uniting in a shared mission to defend human rights and uplift the oppressed. His life embodied the ideals of universal brotherhood and harmony, weaving together literature and activism into a legacy that will echo through the ages.
Central President Advocate Wasand Thari, alongside Hoor-ul-Nisa Palijo, Noor Ahmed Katiyaar, Advocate Sajid Mahesar, and the entire Awami Tahreek leadership, mourn this irreplaceable loss. Dr. Ejaz’s passing leaves a void in the global literary and intellectual landscape, but his words and vision will forever fuel the fight for a just and enlightened world. Awami Tahreek vows to carry his torch forward, honoring a giant whose contributions will inspire generations to rise and resist.
