QUETTA, May 8, 2025 —
The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has significantly intensified its operations across the province, targeting substandard, expired, and adulterated food items. A spokesperson for the BFA stated that inspection teams conducted surprise visits to food businesses in Quetta and Turbat, taking legal action and imposing fines for non-compliance with food safety regulations.
In the Kuchlak Bypass area of Quetta, an ice cream processing unit was sealed for producing unregistered products without labeling or lab reports, in direct violation of food safety laws. Inspectors uncovered numerous serious hygiene breaches and non-compliance issues.
From a local departmental store, expired snacks and unlabelled food items were confiscated, and penalties were imposed on the business for failing to adhere to regulatory standards.
At milk shops in Chashma Achozai, Airport Road, and Mekangi Road, laboratory testing confirmed the adulteration of milk with powdered milk and water at five locations. The vendors responsible were fined on the spot.
Further action was taken on Faiz Muhammad Road, where a fast food outlet, two bakeries, and a general store were penalized for operating without valid licenses and violating hygiene protocols. Meanwhile, a bottled water plant and seven meat shops on Sariab Road also faced legal action for serious food safety infractions.
In the Killi Paind area, expired and banned food products were seized from a general store, a bakery, and two wholesale traders, resulting in additional fines.
Separately, the BFA’s zonal inspection team in Turbat carried out assessments at multiple food businesses, including the main canteen and student mess at BRC College, as part of a continued push to enforce food safety standards in educational institutions.
The BFA has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe, hygienic, and quality food for the people of Balochistan and warned that operations will continue without discrimination in all districts.
