Peshawar – In light of the sacred observance of Muharram and the security challenges it brings, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, Mr. Qasim Ali Khan, carried out a comprehensive visit to key areas of the city, including Cantt and City Divisions, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, to review the law enforcement arrangements in place for the 9th of Muharram.
The CCPO was accompanied by senior police officials, including SSP Operations Masood Ahmad, SP City Atique Shah Khan, SP Cantt Aitezaz Arif, and other relevant officers. During the visit, the CCPO was briefed by local law enforcement officials about the security protocols and operational deployment planned for the day of the procession.
According to CCPO Qasim Ali Khan, a comprehensive and foolproof security plan has been implemented across the district to ensure the peaceful and safe conduct of all religious gatherings and processions. He said that all entry and exit points of the city are under strict surveillance, and law enforcement personnel have been deployed strategically to maintain law and order.
In addition, special checkpoints (Naka Bandis) have been established at sensitive and high-risk areas of the city. These checkpoints are manned by well-equipped and alert personnel to thwart any possible threat.
For enhanced security of the Muharram processions, dedicated police squads have been deployed at the front and rear ends of the processions, while signal jammers have been installed to prevent remote-controlled threats. The routes of all processions are being thoroughly searched and cleared by the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and sniffer dogs to eliminate any risk of explosive materials or hazardous objects.
Furthermore, a central Command and Control Center has been activated, where surveillance is being conducted via CCTV cameras and drone technology. This real-time monitoring is helping the law enforcement agencies respond swiftly to any suspicious activity or emergency.
Multiple police units, including Elite Force, Quick Response Force (QRF), BDU, traffic police, and plain-clothed intelligence officers, are performing duties in their respective capacities. The CCPO emphasized that all leaves of police personnel have been cancelled and forces are working around the clock to ensure the sanctity and safety of the religious events.
To reinforce visible policing, armored vehicles have been stationed at sensitive areas, and routine police patrolling has been intensified throughout the city.
While addressing the media, CCPO Qasim Ali Khan urged the general public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and to remain vigilant. He requested citizens to immediately report any suspicious object, individual, or activity to the nearest police station or helpline.
He reiterated the police department’s commitment to maintaining peace and religious harmony during Muharram and assured that all necessary steps have been taken to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
