Karachi: Syed Aman Shah, the Provincial Convener of the Awaam Pakistan Party Balochistan, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing heavy rains and flood situation across the country, especially in Balochistan. He has urged the government to implement immediate and coordinated rescue, relief, and rehabilitation measures.

Syed Aman Shah stated that torrential rains across Pakistan have affected hundreds of villages, caused numerous casualties, left hundreds injured, and rendered many families homeless. The situation in Balochistan is particularly dire, with districts such as Gwadar, Kech, Pishin, Khuzdar, Zhob, Mastung, and Lasbela submerged by flooding.

He further said that rescue operations are sluggish and no clear emergency policy or relief package has yet been announced by the federal government. Such neglect towards a backward province like Balochistan is deeply regrettable and unacceptable.

He also highlighted the broader national impact; In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, landslides and flash floods in rivers and streams have resulted in fatalities; In Punjab, floodwaters have entered low-lying areas, destroying thousands of acres of crops; In Sindh, the failure to drain rainwater has created disastrous conditions.; In Gilgit-Baltistan, landslides have endangered both tourists and local communities.

Syed Aman Shah emphasized that Pakistan, especially Balochistan, is under severe threat from climate change. Unpredictable rains, intense heatwaves, and recurring floods are clear indicators of the crisis, requiring urgent and sustainable action.

Although the federal government has allocated funds for climate change in the recent budget, the Awaam Pakistan Party considers the amount grossly insufficient to address the grave and immediate challenges of global warming. We demand that climate change be treated as a national priority. A comprehensive, transparent, and effective funding policy must be formulated to protect Pakistan from future environmental threats. Immediate action is also needed to promote afforestation, conserve water resources, and reduce carbon emissions.

Syed Aman Shah appealed to the public to face this difficult time with patience and solidarity and to support one another in every possible way.
