Save the #AgricultureUniversity #Quetta — Save Southern Pashtoonkhwa’s Future (the British Balochistan or Northern Balochistan).
In the heart of Southern Pashtoonkhwa—commonly known as British Balochistan—where livelihoods are rooted in agriculture, livestock, and natural resources, the government of Balochistan under CM Sarfraz Bugti is silently dismantling our only hope for sustainable development.
🚨 The Agriculture University in Quetta—a beacon of research, resilience, and rural development—is being downgraded. The same institution that serves students from over a dozen Pashtun-majority districts is now under threat of being replaced with a vocational center, despite being fully functional, needed, and locally rooted.
👉 We are not against National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) or skills training. But why should a world of possibilities be shut down for Pashtun youth, just to house a training center that could easily be established elsewhere? The government has:
Vacant state buildings in Quetta (Sariab Radio, Baldia Café, Lakpass region, and more)
Dozens of elite-encroached public properties
So why sacrifice a university—a place of higher learning, research, and innovation?
🌱 Why We Need the Agriculture University Now More Than Ever
✅ To combat the climate emergency devastating our land
✅ To build resilience against 30 years of drought that has destroyed crops & livestock
✅ To equip our youth with scientific skills, green technologies & entrepreneurial tools
✅ To train professionals in soil health, water management, food security, and desertification control
✅ To protect our ancient Juniper Forests in Ziarat & Sherani, now dying due to temperature rise and state neglect
In a region where climate-induced poverty and migration are becoming the norm, how can you justify closing down the one university that can reverse the tide?
📉 Discrimination in Development
Let’s call it what it is: Pashtun exclusion in budget and development planning.
🔻 The Pashtun belt, with nearly half of Balochistan’s population, receives less than 20% of the PSDP 2025–26
🔻 Low-population, conflict-ridden areas are receiving billions for universities and development
🔻 Meanwhile, peaceful Pashtun districts are punished with cuts, closures, and silence
This is a colonial approach under a post-colonial face—rewarding the gun-holding areas while starving those who cultivate the land and educate their youth.
📣 We Demand:
✊ Immediate reversal of the downgrade of Agriculture University Quetta
🌿 A climate-resilient development package for Pashtun districts
🎓 Establishment of agriculture and livestock research hubs across Southern Pashtoonkhwa
💡 A platform for student-led innovation and skills-based activism
📢 A stop to this ethnicized policy of higher education destruction
This is not just about one university.
This is about whether the Pashtun youth will be equipped to face climate collapse, economic exclusion, and political marginalization.
This is about whether research and reason will survive in a province being run by political bias and populist blindfolds.
Southern Pashtoonkhwa is a land of knowledge, resilience, and peace. We refuse to be punished for being peaceful. We will not watch our future be downgraded in silence.
