Rawalpindi ( Special Report ) – The Jinnah Iqbal South Asian Forum distributed dry rations among flood-affected families in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The aid was specifically provided to the most affected, financially struggling individuals living along both banks of the Nullah Lai, including members of the Christian community.
Prior to the distribution, a simple ceremony was held to encourage other philanthropists to extend financial support to the underprivileged. The event took place at Jinnah Iqbal Education School, Asghar Mall Scheme, Rawalpindi, and was led by Chairman of the Jinnah Iqbal Forum, Rana Abdul Baqi. Former Federal Minister Muhammad Habib was the chief guest, while the session was presided over by former Federal Secretary Muzaffar Mehmood Qureshi. Renowned poet and writer Naseem Sehar, senior journalist Dr. Saadia Kamal, and Dr. Mrs. Sabahat Sajjad, along with a large number of men and women, also attended the event.
In his address, Rana Abdul Baqi stated that the purpose of the ceremony was not publicity for the sake of attention, but rather awareness to inspire action. He emphasized that the recent floods have severely impacted families living in low-lying areas, especially along Nullah Lai, who were already struggling with poverty. Many lost their homes or suffered significant damage. He added that such individuals deserve immediate help, and this is why the Forum distributed one-month dry ration packages to the affected families. He urged philanthropists to come forward and support the vulnerable.
Former Federal Minister Muhammad Habib remarked that the protection of citizens is the government’s responsibility and that immediate relief should be provided to those who suffered life and property losses due to the floods. He also highlighted the important role citizens can play in flood prevention and mitigation efforts.
Muzaffar Mehmood Qureshi praised the efforts of the Jinnah Iqbal Forum and Rana Abdul Baqi, calling them a practical example of humanitarian service. He encouraged others to follow their lead to help alleviate the hardships and challenges faced by society.
Naseem Sehar presented one of her poems during the event. Dr. Mrs. Sabahat Sajjad hosted the ceremony. Afterwards, monthly dry ration packages — including flour, rice, pulses, cooking oil, and other food essentials — were distributed to affected families, each package catering to a household of six members.
