Suicide Blast Near Afghan Refugee Camp in Chaman Leaves Four Dead
A large-scale search operation has been launched to track any accomplices linked with the bomber
CHAMAN: At least four people were killed and three others injured in a powerful suicide explosion near the Afghan refugee camp close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Chaman on Thursday.
According to initial reports, the blast occurred within the vicinity of the refugee camp, shaking the entire city and surrounding suburban areas. The loud explosion created panic among residents as thick smoke was seen rising from the site.
Soon after the attack, the district administration, Levies, Frontier Corps (FC), and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. Ambulances from local government hospitals were dispatched, and the injured were shifted for emergency medical treatment. Hospital officials confirmed receiving four dead bodies and three injured victims, adding that the condition of at least one injured was critical.
Following the incident, security forces sealed all routes leading to the Pak-Afghan border crossing and intensified checking in the surrounding areas. A large-scale search operation has been launched to track any accomplices linked with the bomber.
The Chaman border, a key gateway for trade and cross-border movement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, has witnessed repeated militant attacks in the past. The city’s proximity to the volatile border region makes it a sensitive security point, where both civilians and security personnel have been frequent targets.
Authorities said the nature of the blast indicates a suicide attack, though further investigations are underway. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Security has been placed on high alert across the border belt, with additional contingents deployed to prevent any further untoward incidents.
