Lanzhou University (LZU), China, and Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, have signed a landmark five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration, scientific innovation, and joint research in agricultural sciences and climate resilience.

The agreement, signed by SAU Vice Chancellor Engr. Under the MoU, both universities will collaborate on plant breeding, genetics, stress physiology, biotechnology, and sustainable agricultural practices. The partnership also includes faculty and student exchange programs, joint research workshops, and opportunities for SAU MSc and PhD students to pursue advanced studies at Lanzhou University.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Siyal said,

> “This agreement will provide our students and researchers access to global best practices and cutting-edge Chinese agricultural science, helping us tackle climate challenges and improve food productivity.”

He added that the MoU would “serve as a bridge between two nations sharing a vision of prosperity through knowledge, technology, and innovation.”

A Joint Coordination Committee comprising representatives from both universities will oversee effective implementation and periodic review of the partnership.

Lanzhou University, one of China’s leading institutions in environmental and agricultural research, expressed strong interest in knowledge transfer and joint research to address critical issues such as drought, soil degradation, and water scarcity.

Both institutions emphasized that such academic linkages strengthen the human capital and innovation dimension of CPEC, supporting Pakistan’s transition toward a sustainable, knowledge-driven agricultural future.
