Mirpur,(AJK) Oct 13 (Independent Report):
A high-level meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz, was held to review ongoing anti-dengue prevention measures in Mirpur. The session was attended by officials from the Health Department, Municipal Corporation, and Agriculture Department.
Briefing the meeting, District Health Officer Dr. Fida Hussain Raja and Additional DHO (CDC) Dr. Nadeem Fazaldad informed that due to coordinated efforts of all departments, no dengue-related death has been reported in Mirpur so far.
They added that 12 specialized teams from the health department are carrying out daily fumigation, sanitation, and monitoring drives across the city. So far, teams have inspected 12,386 houses and checked 42,991 containers for larvae. Out of 454 total reported dengue cases, only six patients remain admitted in hospitals, while others are recovering at home.
Dr. Fida Hussain highlighted that dengue is a viral infection spread by a specific female mosquito, emphasizing that public cooperation is crucial in eliminating breeding sites. He urged citizens not to allow clean water to accumulate, especially in pots, bird feeders, open containers, and discarded tires.
Deputy Commissioner Yasir Riaz directed all departments to sustain fumigation drives and ensure cleanliness in public spaces, including residential areas, markets, graveyards, and parks. He stressed strict action to eliminate mosquito breeding points, repair leaking pipelines, and remove stagnant water.
The DC further advised citizens to wear full-sleeved clothing, use mosquito repellents and nets, and seek medical attention at the first sign of fever rather than self-medicating.
Health officials reaffirmed that through continued vigilance and community participation, Mirpur district aims to remain dengue-free this season.
