University of Gwadar Launches Coastal Development Research Centre to Boost Blue Economy and CPEC Cooperation
ISLAMABAD, October 13, 2025 (Independent Report):
In a major step toward promoting Gwadar’s Blue Economy and coastal development, the University of Gwadar has launched the Gwadar Coastal Development Research Centre (GCDRC) at the Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri Auditorium of the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute.
The newly established research centre will focus on in-depth studies of Pakistan’s coastal ecosystem, marine biodiversity, aquaculture, and environmental sustainability, according to Gwadar Pro.
The initiative aims to transform Gwadar into a regional hub for marine research and policy innovation, supporting sustainable coastal management and economic growth.
As part of the broader academic collaboration, the University of Gwadar (UG) and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in China recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen joint research and academic exchange under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
The MoU—inked during a seminar titled “CPEC Cooperation and China-Pakistan Relations” at SYSU’s Zhuhai Campus—emphasizes cooperation in faculty development, student exchange, cultural collaboration, and policy-oriented research.
Officials said the partnership will significantly boost the capacity of Pakistani scholars and researchers, enabling Gwadar to play a greater role in regional integration, maritime innovation, and sustainable development.
Pakistan’s coastline is a strategic and economic lifeline, and initiatives like GCDRC are expected to enhance the country’s geostrategic and geopolitical importance in the region.
