February 13: In a landmark move toward transparent governance and sustainable energy development, the Water and Power Department of Gilgit-Baltistan formally conducted the financial bid opening of the 18 Megawatt Rooftop Solar Energy Project in the presence of media representatives.
For the first time in the region’s history, the tender process of a major energy project was carried out in such an open and transparent manner, setting a new precedent for merit-based and accountable governance.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Water and Power reiterated the department’s firm commitment to ensuring transparency, merit, and strict adherence to legal procedures in all development initiatives. He emphasized that the 18MW Rooftop Solar Energy Project will play a vital role in addressing the region’s growing electricity demands, significantly reducing load shedding, and promoting environmentally friendly and renewable energy solutions.
The initiative marks a historic step toward strengthening good governance, institutional accountability, and sustainable energy transformation in Gilgit-Baltistan, paving the way for a cleaner and more reliable power future in the mountainous region.
