Lahore, August 28, 2025…Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider said that the construction of dams is inevitable to deal with the flood situation. India has built dams for its own protection, so we too will have to take similar steps for our own protection. People should be immediately shifted from the flood affected areas to safe places and relief activities should be expedited. The flood affectees should be helped and rehabilitated by putting aside the political differences. He expressed these views while talking to the media after reviewing the flood situation at Ravi Bridge today.
Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider said that there is currently a situation of emergency across Punjab and all institutions need to take immediate and effective measures. He said that 170,000 cusecs of water is currently flowing through the Ravi, which is the most severe flood situation in the last 30 years. The Punjab Governor directed the administration to immediately shift people from the danger areas to safe places and expedite relief activities. He said that the administration needs to be active at this time and evacuating people from places where there is danger should be the top priority. The Punjab Governor said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz are currently fully active in the field in the relief operation for the flood victims.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that unfortunately, dams could not be built in the past due to political incompetence, the consequences of which we are facing today. He said that we need to impose an emergency in this regard so that such a situation can be avoided in the future. The Governor of Punjab said that if India has built dams for its own protection, then we will also have to take similar steps for our own protection. He said that the establishment of relief camps for the victims by some political parties is a welcome move, but there is a need to put politics aside and help the affected people. The Governor of Punjab further said that a system of punishment and reward should be implemented at any place so that the institutions that are working good are encouraged, and those who are committing negligence are held accountable.
