The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Tuesday carried out a major operation near Javed Town on Peshawar Ring Road and seized a large cache of expired and hazardous food items.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, more than 2,000 cartons of expired branded noodles and over 3,000 kilograms of expired candies, chips, papad, biscuits, and juices were recovered during the raid.
In addition, harmful substances including artificial colors, phenyl, Mortein, and detergents were also seized and taken into official custody. The spokesperson added that the warehouse owners were caught red-handed using machinery to stamp fake expiry dates on expired products to reintroduce them into the market. These products were intended to be supplied to various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Afghanistan.
The Food Safety team confiscated all machinery and expired stock, while legal proceedings have also been initiated against those responsible.
KP Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru lauded the operation, saying that strict action would be taken against those endangering public health. “Such anti-people elements deserve no leniency, and we will ensure their complete elimination from the province,” he said.
