Islamabad, November 8, 2025:
In a landmark move, the Federal Cabinet—chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif—has approved the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, paving the way for the establishment of a Constitutional Court to interpret constitutional matters independently.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar briefed the media following the meeting, confirming that the draft amendment contains 48 provisions and will soon be presented in the Senate. He said the proposed Constitutional Court will help resolve constitutional disputes expeditiously, while the Judicial Commission of Pakistan will be empowered to oversee judicial transfers and appointments.
Legal experts have termed the move a “progressive step toward judicial independence” and a necessary reform to reduce pendency in constitutional cases
