ISLAMABAD, Nov 27 : In a significant progress, Chinese company “Royal Cell Biotechnology (Pakistan) Co. Ltd” has begun selling buffalo embryos produced through advanced Chinese IVF technology on commercial basis in Pakistan.
In collaboration with Ministry of National Food Security and Research, these buffalo embryos are being made available at affordable price of Rs 30000 each in the local markets of Pakistan, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday.
Dr Qaisar Shahzad, program manager at the Royal Cell Biotechnology (Pakistan) Co. Ltd told Gwadar Pro that more than 7000 buffalo embryos are available in ready stock which are being marketed forthwith.
On a query he said that using Chinese IVF technology, around 20 buffalo calves have been born locally in Ibrahim farm and HAS farm in Pakistan.
He revealed that we have already exported 10,000 embryos to China in September, valued at $2 million.
The Lahore-based RCB (Pakistan), owned by China’s Royal Group, has established a joint venture with Pakistan’s JW Group, which specializes in production and transfer of embryos of Pakistan’s superior buffalo breeds using advanced Chinese IVF technology.
In August 2023, Pakistan authorized the RCB (Pakistan) to export buffalo embryos, ova and frozen semen to China.
The first consignment of 5,000 buffalo embryos was sent to China on June 8, 2024, followed by a recent second consignment of 5,000 embryos exported to China, Dr Qaisar Shahzad told Gwadar Pro.
The embryos were produced from oocytes of the buffalos present at the Royal JW Buffalo Industry Co. Laboratory in Lahore. Royal Cell is a Chinese company involved in in-vitro fertilization of Pakistani buffaloes in Lahore.
The company is also preserving breeds of elite Pakistani buffaloes for enhancing milk production and increasing population of high-quality breeds.
